Exploring New Environmentally Friendly Thermo-Chillers From SMC

Among its many new products, SMC has released environmentally friendly thermo-chillers that feature low global warming potential (GWP) and promote energy savings. Here’s a quick rundown of two such product series — the HRZF and INR-495-042/043.

HRZF Series Low GWP Refrigerant Chiller

Featuring low GWP, the HRZF Series has a DC inverter compressor and inverter pump for greater energy savings. It also uses the environmentally friendly R454C as its refrigerant. In addition, its GWP of 148 falls well under global refrigerant limits, which include GWP 150 (EU), GWP 700 (U.S.) and GWP 750 (California, U.S.).

Additional features include:

  • Circulating fluids: fluorinated fluids and 60% ethylene glycol aqueous solution.
  • Temperature range setting: -20 to 90°C.
  • Cooling capacity: 10 kilowatts (kW).
  • Temperature stability: ∓0.1°C.

Thermo-Chillers for the Semiconductor Industry

SMC recently expanded its thermo-chillers for semiconductor applications with the INR-495-042 and INR-495-043 series. With a GWP 1, these environmentally friendly chillers use R744 (CO2) as their refrigerant and are free of both chlorofluorocarbons (CFC) and F-gas. As a result, they also eliminate the need for F-gas management, recovery and disposal costs, as well as the need for periodic inspections based on the Fluorocarbon Emissions Control Act (Japan).

In addition to their environmentally friendly design, these thermo-chillers are slim and compact, offering a 21-percent reduced footprint compared to other models and accommodating tight installations. These systems also improve workability, thanks to their ability to refill the circulating fluids from the front.

Additional features include:

  • Circulating fluids: fluorinated fluid.
  • Temperature range setting: -20 to 70°C.
  • Cooling capacity: 8.5 kW.
  • Temperature stability: ∓1.0°C.
  • Transportable by air.
